I am looking for a place where I can find fairly cheap mountain bikes. They don't have to be the best of the best, but good enough that I can put some decent mileage on them.

US $.99

Please stay away from discount store bikes. A 5 year old quality bike (Raleigh, Trek, Specialized, etc.) from craigslist will still beat a new one from a discount store. I’ve seen discount store bikes literally fall apart.
Get a good used one – have a bike shop check it out & enjoy. You never stated how tall youe are. Get the proper frame size. If you don’t know – go ask at a real bike shop first. Some links below on good used ones I found in K.C. area.
The silver Trek 4100, if it’s the right fit for you is a STEAL! And the post is wrong…it’s not a 2007 – it’s a 2004. See last link I inserted.
check out bikesdirect.com or pricepoint.com pretty good components & decent quality frame for your $. Also check out ebay and craigslist, there are plenty of neglected bikes waiting to leave their lonely garage and be ridden by you.
you can buy it from here

Your answer is probably not in Kansas City. The actual bike stores are slowly but surely losing out to the online retailers. The online guys can just drop ship them and keep cost and prices much lower. It would pay to go to the store for the test drives and then buy online. There are several site but one of the newest ones I found was http://www.mountain-bikes.net that is run out of the Epik network. They had lots of bikes for all different prices. I’m sure there are others too.
