OK, I bought an $100 Next Power Climber mountain bike a few months ago to use as my main transport to work. It's made of steel and weighs more than 40 pounds. A few times I have taken it on trails because I became interested in mountain biking. It seems to be doing fine. Here's the question: what's the harm in doing this? In addition, if I learn, is this bike capable of doing those bunny hops?

I bought a cheap mountain bike and I would like to convert it to single speed. I don't know much but since I'm a college student I'm trying my best to save some money. So if you could help me out what is a good kit to buy for my single speed conversion?
The reason I want a single speed is because my college is in the city and so I don't need to switch gears.
Even if I shorten the chain couldn't the bike shift gears on accident to a lower gear from like a big bump or something?
Also I tried to shorten the chain but I have no idea how too.
